On Week 5, two teams added players that were classified as “ringers” and both wins were overturned by Superstar Basketball.
Ringers are classified as players who play in a league game but aren’t listed on the roster.
League rules state that a team has until the 3rd game to add players to their game logs. A ringer is also classified as a player who plays for another player under a different name.
Against Left Coast Hoops at Upland Sports Center, Posse GM Shadon Knight crossed out the name, Rick X, and wrote in the name Anthony Clayton.
“Anthony wasn’t in the game, maybe like 4 minutes but he scored like 2 points,” said Knight. The former Young Gunnaz forward had 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and the team called the League Commissioner while the game was in process.
“It was an honest mistake, I thought I added him to the team last week during that double header.” said Knight. League officials looked through the past game logs and all the names written down by the team were listed on the roster. “I’ve been here 3 seasons, I’ve never been like that… I put Anthony Clayton’s name so clearly I’m not trying to hide my players. I really thought I put him last week, if I didn’t know, he wouldn’t have played.
The final score read 65-60, in favor of Posse, a win that has already been overturned.
In Lethal Interjection’s 4th game of the season, GM Efehi Ogbebor added Marcus Farley as a 13th player. Teams have until their 3rd game to add players as stated on the website and on the game logs. A 69-51 win was overturned and Marcus Farley will not be allowed to play for Lethal Interjection.
“The rosters are on the website, it’s on the game logs, it’s accessible to the public,” said a league official. “Everybody knows everyone, it’s a small network… someone will say something and teams that try to cheat cannot get away with it.”
Lethal Interjection has yet to contact the League Commissioner. The final score read 69-51 in favor of Lethal Interjection but the win was overturned and Bank was rewarded with the win.
As disciplinary action, ALL website features will be delayed 1 game. Stats for the game will not count for all 4 teams. Both teams have been fined $80.
The anonymous person who discovered the “ringers” have been rewarded with a $20 gift certificate. Superstar Basketball rewards good citizens of the league and punishes teams who find a way to cheat the system.
