SCHEDULE REQUEST
07.13.10

Welcome to Week 1. Tentative schedule is posted, we're going to FINALIZE the schedule tonight. Please review the schedule and if you need a schedule change, please do so in our FORUMS.

I'll tell you right now, the #1 problem with Superstar Basketball is scheduling. Last season, officiating (will always be the #2 complaint) was above average and there's really no way of fixing it. If NBA players complain about officiating, you can imagine how much complaining goes on when it comes to officials. If you have any issues regarding officiating, please consult with Reggie Ramirez, our Head Official.

When you play in other leagues, you'll notice their league Commissioners are rarely in the gym. I'm very hands on when it comes to the league and sometimes you'll see me reacting to calls on the sidelines. Usually, our Head Official Reggie Ramirez will hear about it and yes, the referees do their best to make sure they officiate a fair game. This is the game of basketball, someone wins, someone loses. If you complain all the time, no one will take you seriously. Make sure your points are valid and you're not just crying for the sake of crying.

THIS AIN'T YOUR USUAL 9 TO 5
I rarely sleep on Saturdays and you'll notice some of the previews are written late night on Saturdays or Sunday early morning. My Sundays never ends at 10 p.m. (the time the last game ends) and usually we have meetings regarding league play immediately right after. When refs slack, when stats-keepers are messing up, when games are behind, when issues arise, we quickly resolve it.  When someone does a good job, we commend them on it. We do it behind closed doors and we expect the same from you.

If you have issues or suggestions, if you see a typo or what have you, drop me an e-mail. There's no need to put anyone on blast on Facebook, there's no need to post a hate Twit on Twitter. Let's act like adults, let's not act like Lebrons or Dan Gilberts around here.

WELCOME TO SEASON 17
06.9.10

Please be patient with Season 17's website. We are entering the latter part of Season 16. Once Playoffs are over, we will be adding more to the layout.

GM MEETING
Summer 2010 Season will be verrrrry busy. We are having our GM Meeting right after the Championship Game, June 27. (6 p.m.)

PRIORITY SCHEDULING
One of the biggest issues in Superstar Basketball is scheduling. Teams always seem to want to play at the same time (3 p.m. - 8 p.m.) and if teams are the first to pay, they usually get their requested game time. This is called PRIORITY SCHEDULING.

If you haven't fully paid, the likelihood of you getting your requested game time is slim to none. If it's very important for you to play at 2 p.m. every week, be the first to pay and you will get your game times.

$600 SALE PRICE
From now until July 1, we will have our EARLY BIRD Special.
Only teams currently playing from Spring 2010 Season will be eligible for the sale price.

SUPERSTAR LIVE
We tried out Superstar Live several times last season and the result was great. Imagine your box scores updated within two hours of your game time? Imaging seeing your stats two hours after you played? We made it possible numerous times last season and this season, we will officially have Superstar Live every week (at select gyms).

Thank You and we look forward to seeing you this summer.

10.
SIX Divisions

CO-ED DIVISION
This is the newest division for Superstar Basketball. The price is cheaper and the result is...more fun!

The idea has been proposed several times from several players.
"I need to get my wife / girlfriend / friend in the Women's team," said one player. "She's gaining some weight..."
"These guys think they can ball, but I bet you we can compete with guys," said a Women's Division player.
"I think it would be fun and it would bring more players to the Women's Division," said another player. "It might be the new LeBronze."

LeBronze Division started with just 4 teams two seasons ago and last season, it grew to 14 teams. The co-ed Division may be the LeBronze Division with LeBronze getting more competitive every season.

WOMEN'S DIVISION
The Women's Division started in the Fall 2007 season and featured 4 teams last season (Spring 2010).

This season, teams that register before July 1 will receive a $50 discount.
Teams play 7 Regular Season games. Games are normally scheduled between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

LeBronze DIVISION
The LeBronze
Division is the league's lowest division. It's quickly becoming the league's most popular division since SSBL enthusiasts can usually play with friends and family members. Unlike other divisions where the competition is fierce, LeBronze Division is truly recreation because there are NO PLAYOFFS. The talent level is lower compared to other divisions but the amount of family members that come out to watch LeBronze Division games makes it exciting nonetheless.

Teams that do not make the Playoffs in Gold are the only teams allowed to register.
New teams cannot join this division. Players that are playing in all other divisions cannot play in this division.

Do you want to branch away from your current LeBronze Division team? Are you not getting playing time? Current LeBronze Division teams may branch out to form a team of their own. Teams that are branching out must have 3 players from last season's roster.

GOLD DIVISION
The most popular division in the league is Gold Division. The teams are guard oriented and the action is fast-paced. The Playoffs give it a NCAA tournament feel since the division has the most teams.

The division once had 32 teams and Gold continues to be "Gold Standard". The variety of competition in Gold makes it appealing and "stacking up your roster" simply won't cut it in Gold Division. Most of the teams that are successful have a lot of experience playing together and a lot of teams recruit in the off-season. Do you have what it takes to take our veteran teams to the top of the rankings?

PLATINUM DIVISION
This is the Competitive Division. Not an elite player? Are you intimidated by Diamond Division? Do you feel like you're too good for Gold Division? Then the Platinum Division is your division. The teams are more organized and more structured and defense is a must. Gold Division elite teams are encouraged to register in Platinum Division and this season, the winning team in Platinum Division will receive a 50% discount for the following season.

DIAMOND DIVISION
The elite. From the sharp-shooters, the high-flyers, the true All Stars, this is where the best competition is at. You're not going to break any records in Diamond because the other players won't let you. This is where the best competition is at. The more experienced teams play at the highest level so expect to see some former college players, semi-pros, and former NBA players playing here.

IF YOU ARE TO BE CONSIDERED THE BEST, YOU MUST BE PLAYING IN DIAMOND. Players not playing in Diamond will not be considered for MVP of the League honors. You will never be the cover boy for www.superstarbasketball.org if you're playing in Gold Division.

New rules will be introduced this season including 30 second shot clock and NBA-range 3-point line.

9.
Previews and Recaps
The subplots in the game are intriguing and for some players, it brings out their best games. Remember that game when you had 9 three-pointers and everyone read about it because it was archived on a website. How about the time when you had to pick between playing with your Championship team and playing with your new team. Your money will get you a ball game in other leagues but when you accomplish a memorable feat, that memory will live in our archives. Re-live some of your best games and stroll down memory lane, we have 16 seasons saved in the archive from MySpace blogs, Lifestyle archive, and in our Ning forums.

8.
Eight Games
8 Games on Sunday (7 for the Women's Division). That's eight games that lasts 2-3 months, a time period long enough for you to improve and develop yours skills on the basketball court. There's enough time between seasons (1-3 weeks) for players to recuperate from the long, grueling season.

7.
Rivalry Weekend
Remember that fool who played in your team and he went out and started his own team. How about your friend from high school that keeps talking and talking and talking saying how his team is better than yours. The staff will do its best to promote competitive games and the climax is usually on Week 7, the week known as Rivalry Weekend.

The more teams that get added to the league the juicier the rivalry gets. A lot of teams were eliminated before the Playoffs and the losing teams usually want to avenge their defeat. Guess when payback is... Week 7!

6.
Growth
The League started out with 6 teams just a little over 3 years ago on August 6, 2006. It doubled the following season with 12 teams and in its 3rd season, it had a total of 26 teams. Between the 3rd and 4th season, the competition was higher than expected and we had 4 teams pave way for 10 new teams. 32 teams in 4 seasons is one thing...but it's quality over quantity and that's why teams come back for more.

5.
Virtual Awards
The record books and Champions pages were remodeled last spring. The All Star Gallery and End of the Season awards are renovated after every season. What other league recognizes you for what you do on the court? Why spend your time playing in a league where you're nothing but a jersey number?

4.
Playoffs
This is one of the most exciting times during the season where truly, anything happens. The road to the 'chip is tough especially in Superstar Basketball. The Playoffs is a 2-day event with the first two games on the 1st Weekend of Playoffs being the toughest. What happens when your team makes it to the Championship round? The long court at Walnut Rec will host your Championship Game along with dozens of SSBL All Stars sitting on the sidelines. Our Championship/All Star Weekend is on the same weekend in the same gym and there is a lot of pressure to deliver a Championship in front of your peers.

3.
Zero Tolerance for Fighting
Physical play is part of the game. A hard foul is simply that a hard foul but at the end of the game, we're all friends and one big family. The governing body does its best to maintain the integrity of the League and our code of conduct is strict. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FIGHTING is simply that. Making threats after the game...suspended. Double technical fouls...suspended. We enforce rules because in Superstar, there is no place for that garbage.

2.
Hype
From the music blaring from the speakers to the hype surrounding your game, there's no question that when you are playing in a big game, you might get somewhat nervous. From the articles, the standings, even on the message boards, sooner or later the spotlight will be on you and it's up to you to prove that you want it. You might even be a Player of the Week.

We do a lot of interviews whether it's on the recaps, Superstar TV or Superstar Radio. Our collaboration with Bliss Media Works will bring more exciting features in the future so stay tuned.
