SCHEDULE CHANGE
1.21.09

A lot of teams are asking for Super Bowl Weekend off. (February 1)
We can schedule games for teams who want to get caught up with the rest of the league and all games will be morning games. We should have times posted by tomorrow evening.

PRESIDENT'S DAY WEEKEND
A lot of teams are also asking to play on President's Day Weekend. Not only will a lot of players be out of town but the NBA All Star Weekend is on the same weekend. That weekend (February 15) also falls on uhh... Valentine's Day Weekend so a lot of teams may forfeit. A lot of teams have asked to play but because of um... the All Star Weekend I gotta say no to that suggestion.

DIRTY FLOORS
The gym floors are dirty but that's because the tenants before us is a kids basketball league. Keep in mind, kids don't wear different shoes to play basketball and kids are generally dirty, no offense.

RECAPS
Done on Wednesday morning? What in the world?

TRADES
When you commit to play for a team, keep in mind that you're basically telling the General Manager that you'll be playing for the whole season, playing for 8 games, and you're dedicated to helping the team out. If you played one game and you're demanding a trade already, that just shows how much of a quitter you are. You don't quit on a team after just 1 game. It shows your character and you're not only insulting yourself but you're insulting the team, and the league. We don't want a bunch of quitters whoring around from one team to another trying to win a championship. This is not what Superstar Basketball is about.

If you feel that you can't play with a team and you absolutely need a trade, have your General Manager post a trade OFFER in our FORUMS. The trade must be for an actual player and both GMs from both teams must approve the trade. There is a 1 week waiting period, that means a player CANNOT play in the morning and then play at night for another team.

Why are we so strict? Well, a trade went down... and two months after a trade went through, I was still accused of an unfair trade and I came out looking like the bad guy. We lost the team, and they made it seem like I got their franchise player and assigned the player to another team. Don't get it twisted, there's no way I would assign one player to another team... it is what it is.

Peace.

CHANGE
1.20.09

I never thought I'd see this day in my lifetime. Today, we celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama, our 44th President. I'm not one to get political but this day is historic, it marks that anything is possible. Racism doesn't end today, it will probably never end but today, we take a big step towards change.

I remember when Rocky Anciano wrote a story, "Race With No Finishline."  Basketball isn't a race sport, politics shouldn't be about race, it may have been in the past, it might still be in the future, but now I can say times have changed.

Today, we bestow faith in a man who will lead our country for the next 4 years. Times are rough, we're in a recession and I'm hoping he succeeds in his time in office. Good luck, Obama.

DURTY THIRTY
1.15.09

We are confirming game times with gym directors.
SCHEDULE WILL BE FINALIZED as of FRIDAY, 5 p.m.

AROUND THE LEAGUE - RECAPS
Done by Thursday morning. All writers, please have recaps done by Wednesday so that everyone can read them by Thursday morning. It's early since it says we'll have it done by Thursday Night... but someone will find a way to complain about the grammar or a name not being capitalized   =)  jk

GAME LOGS
Because Monday was busy for me, I had someone else do game logs. There were a lot of typos because well... that's what shows up on our game logs. People, we're adults yet some of us write like 3rd graders. Please type up your roster so that it's legible. We need last names, please.

DURRRRTY-THIRTY

We have a couple of teams register late and GOLD DIVISION NOW HAS 30 TEAMS.

I don't think anyone will complain if I announce that the Playoffs will have 16 teams qualify. Sweet 16 for Gold Division??? I don't think anyone will complain, so let's do it.

ROUND TABLE
At our round table on Sunday Nights, we discuss league issues, we discuss Player of the Week players, we discuss everything going on in the league. Some of us are writing previews at 5 a.m. and don't end their day until 11 p.m. on Sunday nights. Sometimes I have typos because well... working 20 hours straight will do that, I'll get home at 1 a.m. and I'm still typing on the computer. Please e-mail me instead of posting it on MySpace when I have errors. The forums are okay, but MySpace is just for trash talk.

Thanks.

BIRTHDAY EDITION
1.12.09

Just want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. Hitting 30 next year... and when they say 30 is the new 20, they're lying to you.

SSTV - COMMISH'S CORNER 4
The video compilation of my party days was to show the other, younger side of me in my party days. During college, before Superstar Basketball, I was "livin it up", partying, drinking, doing things all college kids do. I pretty much embarrassed myself all the time because well... alcohol does that to you.

As much as I like to crack jokes on people, I can take it too. I posted the most embarrassing moment of my life just to show humility. Drinking really makes you look umm.. well the video sums it up. After college, I thought I"d have a career in networking but I got distracted, partied... and it wasn't until I gave all that up that I was blessed with Superstar Basketball. You gotta fail in order to succeed...

ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL
There was miscommunication somewhere along the line. It's being resolved. I want to thank all the teams who were patient and the gym situation is being handled accordingly.  The new 24 shot clock is getting shipped. Not sure what the deal was in ASC but that 24 shot clock should have been working.

BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT
Zebras are never perfect. We are never perfect. I saw two questionable calls yesterday... and I got 1 of them on video. I can't overturn games, I'm not a ref. What I can do is re-assign your team to another location or if other refs are available, have them officiate your games.

SCHEDULE THIS WEEK

I'll have the game logs up by tomorrow, TOP 5 Games written up tomorrow, the rest of the recaps by Thursday. NO SORTABLE stats until Week 3, and I'm getting all the logos updated by the end of the week. SSTV should be up by Friday, Noon. This week, schedule is FINAL AS OF WEDNESDAY, 9 p.m.

IF YOU'RE FREE...
...come down to RA Sushi, Chino Hills at 9:30 p.m.

Thanks.

GM MEETING
1.9.09

Last day of Registration is today!!
No teams will be allowed to register after today. Unlike in the season's past where we allowed team to join after Week 2, Week 3, we won't allow teams to join in the middle of the season.

RULES UPDATED
The new rules that were passed at the GM Meeting can be found under the rules section. For your convenience, the new rules are also listed below.

+ Player has to play a minimum of 2 regular season games in order to play in the Playoffs
+ 15 minute grace period game time then clock starts running. If team does not show up by halftime, it's a forfeit.
+ 4 players are required to start a game regardless of what division.
+ 15 player roster for ALL DIVISIONS.
+ Playoff format changed for Gold Division.
   - Current format had 1 vs (5 vs. 12)and 2 vs (6 vs. 11)...
   - New format would have 1 vs (8 vs 9)... 2 vs. (7 vs10)
+ Technical fouls for jersey infractions will be called after Week 3.
+ 80's List - GMs are required to pay the full balance + $80 reinstatement.
+ Fees - Only teams that are playing in the current season will receive a returning team price for the upcoming season ($340). Only current teams will qualify for "Early Bird Discount". Teams not participating in the current season are not eligible for Returning Team prices.

SSTV EPISODE
I was going to look back on the Summer 2008 season but back then, our video camera didn't support our mic and the audio quality really sucked. Instead, I made a video on umm... well, you have to see it. If I don't have it tonight, I'll post it up tomorrow because uh... well... you gotta see it.

TEAM PICTURES FROM LAST SEASON
They'll be up in 2 weeks. I wanted to forget about last season that I put a lot of time into making this one of the best seasons yet. With that said, I'll start working on it in 2 weeks.

WALL OF FAME
...it's coming. I'm waiting until the end of registration to unveil it. There's a delay on it because of the point system I have set up and I know a lot of people will have suggestions on it.

REMINDERS
+ Sortable stats aren't available the first 2 weeks. We're still getting everyone's names in the system. There's no sense in sorting out stats when there's only 1 game played. =Þ

+ Please make your schedule requests in the forums, not through my e-mail. Sometimes I have a staff member making changes... and they don't have access to my e-mail. Please do your requests in the forums. Week 2 is already up...say what?

PEACE and see you all on Sunday... or Saturday... and Monday too.
