The
Good News: We have gyms reserved in the City
of Placentia starting February 3. We'll update
the schedule once the paperwork is done.
The Bad News: Some teams will be playing
on President's Day but for the most part,
the schedule is being done a week in advance.
Schedule for January 27 has already been posted.
We can all thank Outkast Connection/Team
Kabibbles Allen Medina for filling out
the paperwork and getting the gym reserved.
Gyms have been updated, again. |

Rookie Hazing |

It's well
known that in our articles, rookies rarely get
the pub they deserve unless of course they're a
stand-out player. Call it rookie hazing but it
only happens because we don't know too much
about the rookies. But after a period of time,
we start to know more about the noobies and more
things are being written about them. The same
concept applies to Superstar Basketball...
The league has only been around for 7 seasons (1
year and a half) and we are still making a name
for ourselves. Unfortunately, there are other
basketball organizations that have priority when
it comes to gym time and the most difficult time
is the winter season. NJB (National Junior
Basketball) rents out most of the facilities in
the local area and locations are scarce because
they have priority. As you all know, high school
basketball runs though March and Rowland High
School will not be available for us (we just
found out as of January 9).
In the mean time, we will only run 2 games this
opening weekend at Walnut Gym (11 a.m. - 1
p.m.). There is a MLK Volleyball Tournament at
American Sports Center but the following
weekend, we will have evening hours from 6:00
p.m. to 10 p.m. at ASC.
This is
just a temporary fix. We have 3 staff members
who are inquiring about availability in the
local area. This season will drag but every team
will get their 8 games and as long as we have
Walnut Rec by March, we should be okay.
Thanks.

I've been
receiving a lot of questions from rookie GMs so
to make it easier to address all the questions,
I'll be uploading a separate section called
"General Managers - how to successfully run a
team". I should have it up by the weekend.
Also,
there's a lot of players who are finally
exploring their options hoping to play in other
divisions. The talent level is rich and you have
several All Stars who can help your team out in
numerous ways. Check out the forums, the MySpace
comments to see if any of these players can help
your team.
Finally, last season, we've had a
lottttttttttttt of complaints on that one rule.
You know which one it is, "ONLY 2 PLAYERS FROM A
HIGHER DIVISION CAN PLAY IN A LOWER DIVISION
TEAM."
Sadly, there are teams out there who belong in a
higher division yet they try to dominate the
regular season by registering in the lower
division. There's also players who have the
talent to play in higher divisions yet they're
obsessed with breaking records and continually
lobby for Player of the Week honors. In
contrast, there's players from higher division
that just want to play and have fun in the lower
division because they're playing with their
family, girlfriends, or what not.
I
really don't want to have to sort out the Gold
Division but it is what it is. Recreation. If
you're trying to be the Recreation Division
Champion... well all you get is a shirt - a pink
shirt that says "I won the Gold Division and all
I got was this lousy pink shirt." (being
sarcastic) The Gold Division is for fun so take
it for what it is. Even if you do break a
record, or you're a Player of the Week for
Gold... it's just Gold. Now, the argument for
players who play for multiple divisions is that
they suffer in the Playoffs since teams end up
playing back-to-back games in the Semis (should
they make it that far). In a way, everything
evens out and in sports, there's an argument for
everything.
Platinum really is competitive but the
likelihood of qualifying for the Playoffs is
much easier than in Gold Division, which already
has over 16 plus teams registered. Only the top
8 teams qualify and the games are more
competitive. The big topic last season was
"ONLY 2 PLAYERS FROM A HIGHER DIVISION CAN PLAY
IN A LOWER DIVISION TEAM."
I take
responsibility for not clarifying that. At the
time that rule was conjured, the rules were
simple. Only 2 players from a higher division
team can play for a lower division team but
teams can justify that rookies don't qualify
because it's their first season...... blah blah
blah.....
.....blah blah blah....
...so
in an attempt to finally sort it out, next week
will be your chance to vote on certain issues
affecting the league. The new rules will be set
in place on Opening Day. Next week is your
chance to change the rules.
What we will
vote on.
1. Can Diamond Division players play in the Gold
Division?
2. Once a team goes up a division and has a
losing season, can they drop down?
3. Are rookies exempted in the rule -
"ONLY 2
PLAYERS FROM A HIGHER DIVISION CAN PLAY IN A
LOWER DIVISION TEAM."?
If you
have any other concerns, please e-mail me. The
last thing I want to hear in the middle of the
season is, "Hey Hanz, I don't like that rule
man, I think it stinks that, ______, is playing
in Gold when they have 5 players playing in the
Uranium Division. They should be playing in
Pluto."
Lastly,
Elemental Productions is working hard on the
videos. They do a great job on it but the
highlights should be up by the time season
starts. We lag on the results for All Star Game
only because we want you to be there
instead of reading about it online to
see what happened. You really did miss a great
game and you missed out on a lot of highlights
from the Platinum Division vs Diamond Division
Game.
I want to thank the players who played a great
game despite the holidays just around the
corner. For you All Stars who didn't show up,
don't be surprised if you get the All Star snub
for the rest of your life. muahahah. jk
No really I am.
Peace.

Time
flies.
Around
this time last year we were just starting our
3rd season. We anticipated somewhere between
12-20 teams and we were thankful to see 26 teams
participate in our 3rd season. Some notable
teams that joined were Deacons, Aztecs #1
Stunners, Bank, Angkor Wat and Relics. The teams
noticeably changed the competition level to
where its at now and I'm looking forward to what
the new year has in store for us.
The
staff would like to wish everyone a safe NYE
celebration and we look forward to seeing you
this season.

Welcome to our 7th Season,
History In The Sketching.
The new season starts on January 20,
2008.
Last
season, the league featured 46 teams and 4
divisions: Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Women's.
The Women's Division will play 7 games each
while the 3 divisions (Diamond, Platinum, Gold)
will play 8 games.
New Layout
I'm still working on the layout so thanks for
being patient.
I'm also going back to the previous seasons and
updating things so be on the lookout....
REGISTRATION IS FINALLY OPEN
REGISTRATION FORM
Thank
You once again and Happy Holidays. The staff is
thankful for the wonderful cookies we got from
the League Mom, Erin Ramos. Thanks, Erin....
they're just as good as the cookies the Hippos
Girls gave us. =)
Zero
Tolerance
Well...it got really competitive last season but
I just want to thank EVERYONE for not getting
into fights. There were some heated moments and
more than anything... from the website, to the
podcast, from everything the league is proud of,
I can't be any prouder than YOU.
Anytime
Superstar Basketball is mentioned, I'm glad to
share with everyone that no one fights in the
League. The league is diverse, we are all
different but our common ground is our love for
the game of basketball. We all have different
backgrounds, we have different lifestyles, and
spending Sunday afternoon to play basketball and
leave all the distractions behind is something
everyone in the league cherishes.
New
Features
Let's keep
it going to the next year. We have new features
this coming season and we'll have more
commentaries outside of Previews and Recaps. The
following articles are new:
- What's Hot, What's Not
- Kick It. (picture gallery of shoes)
- Who they look like (picture gallery of
players)
Championship Shirts
Unlike any other basketball league, we take
our time producing our Championship shirts
because we personalize the shirts especially for
your team. We try to promote our All Star Game
attendance by handing out the shirts from the
previous season on All Star Weekend. If you or
your team isn't there, then you simply don't get
it.
Money
Inc., I looked for you guys but you guys didn't
show up on All Star Weekend. Looks like they're
going on e-bay.... just kidding.
