GM's Corner

January 10, 2008

There's no question that team management is one of the more difficult jobs in the league. The team starts with the leadership of the General Manager and the team can only go as far as the GM takes them. Team management is the game within the game and this page is designed to help the GMs make the job easier for them.

Each team is different and there is a wide variation of how GMs run their team. There are those who would rather run a team than play and they pride in having the best team jerseys complete with matching shoes. There are those who bring friends and family on a weekly basis creating a loud yet exciting environment to play in. Traditionally, there are the nonchalant GMs who simply get their friends to join the team and they just want to play.

In a league where the website rivals that of any basketball leagues in the surrounding area, it would be a waste for GMs to be strictly one dimensional. Just like the league, GMs have gone beyond the ordinary and the variations are endless. Some have started their own forums (FRANCHISE and NIKETALK), while others created their own highlight reels (ELEMENTS). Communication is key and GMs have created their own MySpace page to talk to their players (
STYLIN ON YOU) or show off their new pictures. Listed below is a few of our recommendations on what should be importan

Uniforms
You gotta look the part. You want to be a real team, then look like a real team. When Relics and #1 Stunners premiered in the League (Winter 2007), they intimidated their opponents not only with their style of play but with their unis. Players are going to pride themselves with the jersey they wear on the front and there's a swagger that comes with it when your team is looking good winning. Additionally, it makes it easier for the staff to log your stats when you're wearing a number on the front and back of your jersey. Help us by helping yourself.

Know the Rules
The adrenaline of playing in a closely contested game and knowing the rules can make or break your team. We've seen it too many times. Teams will use 2 time outs in the 3rd quarter and not have any time outs left for the final period. Players will outsmart their opponents by knowing how to stop the clock in the waning seconds and a delay of game violation can be a difference between a win or a loss. Know the rules and your team may rule the league.

Fan Support
On one court was a Platinum Division rivalry game and on other court was a Gold Division rivalry game. The more competitive game was being played on the Platinum Division court but everyone (including teams who were waiting) was watching the heavily anticipated Hippos vs. Elements game. Crowd support will bring wonders to your team because everyone likes playing in front of a crowd.

Take a joke
All of our writers are unbiased but not all our writers are kind with their words. You have the usually reserved Ken Ngarayawongse who focuses more on strategies and game play while there's the outspoken Rocky Anciano who will take your heart out with a few words. (holds the record for having the most articles edited due to unnecessary comments) Everyone enjoys a good laugh so take it for what is.

Pay on time
Get your preferred schedule by paying on time. It's simple, pay first and you get your preferred game time. There was a team when we allowed teams to play without paying but that's no longer the case. Check out the "80 LIST" to your right before adding these players to your team.

Outkast Connection
Only put close friends on a team

Make sure everyone gets along with each other because team chemistry is valuable. It may be awkward to talk to some players but your close friends don't take things too personal.

General Manager
Hungry Hippos
Practice. Chemistry.  Patience

Practice makes perfect. Develop team chemistry and be patient with your team.

Phenoms
Have fun.

It's not about winning all the time. Playing basketball on Sundays with your friends is just as good as watching my favorite team, Lakers. Some people take things too seriously, have fun and be cool.

With teams starting their games at separate weeks, we will base your deadlines according to games. Instead of the deadline to add players instead of Week 2, the deadline to add players would be after your 2nd game. Deadline to trade players would be after your 3rd game and the deadline to move players between two divisions is your 4th game.

The team rosters will be back this season. I didn't have time to work on it last season and I had a few software conflicts. They're back this season so please fill it out and send it to
commish@superstarbasketball.org

Team Rosters

You need MS Excel to fill it out.

Thanks.

DID YOU KNOW ?

- Players who foul out cannot take their jersey off until they are off the court and are sitting on the bench.

- Clock runs until the last 2 minutes of the game. Clock stops when deficit is under double-digits.

(For example, if the score is 59-69, the clock still runs)

- Only players on the court can call time-out. However, a GM or Coach on the bench can call time-out.

- Teams get 2 time-outs per half.
Time-outs do not carry over.
Overtime period - 1 time out.

REFEREE FEES

$280 REFEREE FEES

Avoid the hassle of collecting referee fees during games. Pay in advance. We recommend paying in advance because even when your players miss their game, they're still paying for their ref fees.

Payment due before season starts on January 20

1. How can I pay for my team?
There are several ways to pay for your team.

Check
Please make the check payable to Superstar Basketball.
Also, please write your team name on the check.

Paypal
Please click on the link to your right.

In Person
Please pay by CHECK ONLY and look for this guy >>
Hanz Jimenez.

2. In seasons past, our team paid $35 a week for ref fees. We heard this process changed during the off-season. Is this true?

The days of stats-keepers collecting referee fees are over. Their main focus will be keeping stats and teams will no longer have to worry about the financial burden of paying for games before they actually play their game. Plain and simple, pay for your ref fees and you will be scheduled for the upcoming week. If we do not receive your team's ref fees by Wednesday night, you may not get scheduled for the upcoming week. Refer all questions to commish@superstarbasketball.org.
