Only two teams remain undefeated.
Diamond Division Champions Semi Pro Inc.
are 7-0
heading into the last week of the
season. The last time they lost was
against Posse on Week 7 (Spring 2008).
Will they beat Posse in a re-match of
last season's Championship Game?
Platinum Division team USUCK is 7-0
and will face off against winless team
Dagobah System. Three key players will
be out of the lineup for USUCK. Will
Dagobah do the unthinkable and defeat
USUCK? |

A big thank you to everyone who made All Star
Weekend / Championship weekend
eventful. It was a great turn out and we couldn't have done it without
everyone's
support.
Big ups to
B-ball Junkies for donating
shirts to give out to the crowd...
Big ups to Omar for working the mic, and his sister for giving out
medals.
Big ups to poster boy Alphonso White for handing out medals. I
guess when
you retire, you can help out by handing out gold medals.
Big ups to Nikki Aguila and Jon Paras for their work on
Superstar TV.
Big ups to all the Champions: Wildcats, Money Inc, Nusantara, Lady Skull-basherz.
Big ups to Flight for winning the dunk contest.
Big ups to Ken Wright for winning the 3-point contest.
Big ups to the Diamond squad for pulling out the close win.
Not so big ups to Money Inc for beating USUCK. j/k
Big downer to teams that STILL have a balance... and the season is
already over.
A big downer to the Commish for letting them get away with it.
Another big downer to the teams who will be put on the 80's list this
Friday.
The list has already been updated with TROY and Foundation on it.
Big ups to my new staff member who will handle scheduling and
receiving
payment.
A big downer to the Commish for being good at graphic design but
sucking
when it comes to collecting fees.
Big ups to the staff, especially Francis Pascual, Superstar Staff
Member of the
Season.

fully paid

EXIT
INTERVIEWS
We read ALL of the exit interviews and to all the funny ones out
there, thanks. lol
Our league is unique and we do a lot of things other leagues aren't
capable of.
Just for the staff to read some of the compliments you wrote made
their day.
END OF THE SEASON AWARD
As you know, End of the Season awards are announced on Friday
evening.
BIG THANKS
The 1st ever Superstar Staff member went to: Francis Pascual.
A lot of the teams nominated him but personally, I'd like to thank
Rocky Anciano
and Ryan Francisco for getting San Diego started.
MONEY = EVIL
Reading some of the interviews, most of you requested for faster
turnaround
with the recaps. Better scheduling was another. As much as we would
like to
deliver that, WE NEED TO COMPROMISE.
What keeps the league afloat? Your league fees/ref fees.
Many of you know that I'm not handling fees next season. I'm
training a new
staff member to take care of that and most of the fees will have to
be paid in
advance. In the past, it was easier to collect fees from everybody
since I
knew everyone but now, teams are abusing it.
What other league allows you to pay continually/at the end of the
season?
Well, that trust has been broken and I'm seeing checks returned for
non-payment.
Let me get this straight... your team lost... you can blame it on
the refs, or what
have you and you get away with not paying the fees. Excuse my
French... but
Are you fucking serious?
I stay up all night on Saturday writing recaps, I stay up all week
designing web
sites. I've shopped myself and I can easily make a 50-70 K salary
working for a
company with my skills.
ME.
I AM NOT A SELL OUT. As much as I can be a corporate whore, I'm not
one.
My legacy is this - Superstar Basketball.
This started as a church league in 1996. My gramma got me going to
church
and trying to impress a girl, I started a church league. My friends
were doing
drugs and joining gangs but at the age of 16, I was running a
church basketball
league - for free. That's right, for free. I never did get the girl
but hey, I had SMBL.
St. Martha's Basketball League.
I couldn't run it anymore because of college. When I finished
college, I went out...
partied, worked a 9-to-5, but I was empty. During Lent I gave up
all the temptations
that were killing me and God blessed me with the vision.
The 10 year reunion for St. Martha's Basketball League was coming
up in 3 mos.
and I wanted a reunion or a banquet. Next thing I know, SMBL turned
into SBL
and what started as a church league is now this.
Look, I'm not tryin' to be ballin' here. Our fees are cheap and
when
you think about it, paying in advance will save you money ($600
league/ref fees).
Being wealthy ISN'T one of my goals in life. To be happy and
enjoying my career
IS. Being rich ISN'T my ambition. To be recognized as one of the
top basketball
leagues in the nation IS.
ECONOMICS 101
I've had this article for a few years but I've always hesitated on
posting it.
Big thanks to Dream League for
posting this.
Fees we collect pay for gyms, insurance, refs, and score keepers.
PEACE.

WEEK
8 SCHEDULE
There were a lot of games that had to be moved around on Week 8.
Either it was because of time constraints or gym preference.
Priority went to teams that are fully paid.
FEES
A lot of teams still aren't fully paid. A friendly reminder was
sent out.
If fees aren't paid for, games will not start.
Please have fees ready. We got gyms to pay for. Thank You.
MEDIA DAY
For the rookies that don't know, well now you know.
Week 8 is when you take your team pictures.
Please fill out the Exit Interviews. I take this seriously. This is
how we improve
every season.
FYI.
Recaps were delayed several times for balls being stolen.
Recaps were delayed on Week 8 because, well, a lot of teams haven't
fully paid.

BUSY
Been very, very busy here. Not only with the new site but with the
hassle of
collecting fees. Surely, there has to be a better way of collecting
fees right?
The new recruit starts next season and we're working out the rules
and such...
We will have a PO Box address where you can mail in the payments
and your
team will not be scheduled unless you pay for your games.
By doing this, it will prevent discrepancies. It will prevent you
(the GM) from
having to pay for more than you should. A lot of GMs actually
prefer it this way
because if teams aren't scheduled for not paying, players will pay
GMs so
that they can play.

LIFESTYLE
We received a lot of inquiries regarding next season's registration.
REGISTRATION begins on
SEPTEMBER 12
Season begins on
OCTOBER 12
We will celebrate our 10th Season by naming it "Lifestyle" after our
motto:
"Basketball isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle."
INTRODUCING OUR NEW SCHEDULE COORDINATOR
I've done the scheduling for the past 9 seasons but with the league
getting
bigger it's time to pass that responsibility to someone else.
Starting next season, the new scheduling coordinator will handle all
payments,
scheduling via e-mail.
I will strictly focus on being Commish and being 'just' the
webmaster. When
you want to make your payment, get your games scheduled, please e-mail
the
coordinator.
INTRODUCING OUR NEW
PROCEDURE
So when I met with this person, one of the things we discussed is
accepting
payment during game days. Personally, I hate it.
I'm more into the media stuff, more into taking pictures, doing
interviews, adding
on to the features that makes our league unique.
For the teams who pay in advance, I can't thank you enough for making
life easier.
For the teams who pay every game day, your process will have to change.
- In order for games to be scheduled, payment (check or paypal) must be
RECEIVED by Tuesday afternoon.
- Games will only be scheduled if payment is received by Tuesday
afternoon,
Yes that's a repeat, Payment must be received by Tuesday
afternoon.
- Scheduling priority goes to teams who pay first.
If you hate driving to ASC, then you better pay in
advance!
I AM NOT PART of the scheduling committee no longer so please don't ask
me
if you can get your game scheduled...despite the fact that your team
hasn't paid.
I've heard every excuse in the book for the past 9 seasons. I've always
been
straight up when the website isn't updated or when things are going on in
the
league. When I have to hear every excuse in the book and you complain
about
officiating...when your team hasn't paid half of their fees, then I can't
take
you seriously. (no names mentioned)
Do you really think I can tell ASC or City of Walnut or the insurance
company...
"What had happened with my check was.... (fill in the blank)"
NO GAMES
Just a reminder, NO GAMES THIS COMING HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
It's funny how a head referee will ask me if there's any games on
Holidays...
when we haven't played on any holidays during the past 9 seasons.
(no names mentioned)
=)
