USUCK's Derek
DeVan claims second MVP Title
A year and a half after
winning his first MVP title, USUCK Center
Derek DeVan claimed his second MVP honor
guiding USUCK to a 5-3 record.
Derek
is having a spectacular season as he leads
both Diamond and Platinum Division in
scoring. He averages 36.7 ppg for USUCK and
tied for the second most assists in the
division with 4.3 apg. He grabbed the
rebounding title finishing with 95 rebounds
this season.
Defensive
Player of the Season award went to
underrated defender, The Bank's Ian
Fennel. Ian averaged 1.3 spg, 2.2 bpg
and tied with Armando Aranda in
blocked shots with 13. The debate for
Defensive Player of the Season went on for
hours and any of the 5 candidates could have
won that honor. In the end, it was Ian's
tenacious defense and his ability to create
turnovers that won him over the panel.
Rookie Ralph Navarez averaged a
double-double 22.9 ppg, 13.0 rpg for Money
Inc. He blocked 8 shots and the post
presence he provided helped Money Inc claim
the 3rd seed with a 5-3 record. Bank's
rookie Rashad Martin finished as the
runner-up and he averaged 21.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg.
The General Manager of the Season award went
to That Same Team GM Lalo Arroyo. He
not only led That Same Team to a
Championship in Gold last season but led
That Same Team (pun intended) to the top of
the division in Platinum - a feat that's
been unheard of at this point. "Most teams
that climb a division underachieve. That
Same Team is the first team to
breakthrough," said a league analyst. The
team started off strong by beating Relics
(last season's finalist) and TST finished
with a 6-2 record.
Most Improved award went to Sophomore
sensation Uzoma Kalu who finished
with 20.4 ppg, 1.9 apg. His improvement
helped Remix finish with a 4-4 record and
the team is making their first Playoff
appearance this season.
