Phenoms vs. Thrillers

2 p.m.  Thrillers vs. Phenoms
PREVIEW: The re-scheduled game will finally happen without a lot of the key players. "It won't really be a rivalry game because the Ninofrancos won't be available for game-time, but you know Freestyle's Team Captain, Holden Williams, will still be willing to play against his former teammate, Swish's Team Captain, Jeff Lee.

PREVIEW: Phenoms was a returning Playoff team that gave the Defending Champs, Global Gym, a scare in the first round in last season's Playoffs. A team that was within striking distance in the first half against GG, is now tied with cellar-dwellers, Thrillers, with a 1-6 record. Last season, the Commish vowed to hang 20 points on Phenoms and lost his bet against his best friend, Phenoms Team Captain Alvin Aguilar. It's double or nothing and all the Commish has to do it out-score his opponent.

PREVIEW: Elements clinched a playoff spot in the lowly Western Conference and they can actually eliminate B-LO-DA-RIM from the 'Real Season.' If Deep Penetration wins, BBC wins and B-LO-DA-RIM loses, the last Playoff spot will go to Deep Penetration. B-LO-DA-RIM's Nico Bouye has catapulted himself to the top spot in steals with 19, a spot that Elements James Bernardo owned all season. While these two would rather play, Elements Luke Montilla and JC Rivera have been talking back and forth and it was JC who wanted this match-up in the first place. Will Luke get the last laugh?

PREVIEW: Deacons' Mark Moton is barely leading the league in rebounds. He has the opportunity to pad his stats against the lowly Game Breakers but it won't be an easy game. Co-Commish wants to end the season on a positive note and losing isn't an option for Tommy Avalos. The postseason will be without Game Breakers for the first time in 3 seasons.

PREVIEW: Relics are already looking forward to next season and they were the first team to register. Their 4-3 record is further proof that they have overcome their slow start and they would like nothing more than to beat an elite team such as the 5-2 Team Dime. The featured match-up will be between two Gold Division high-flyers, Andrew Knox and Tony Johnson.

9 p.m.  Abstract vs. Deep Penetration
PREVIEW: This is for the final spot  in the Eastern Conference. Flight One has fallen from the middle of the pack to a border-line playoff team. They'll be playing against a surging DSK team and the winner is guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs while the loser goes home. Individually, DSK's Richard Hak is tied with Minstate's Derrick DeVan in points per game (24.6 ppg).

Alex Ivezaj on B-LO-DA-RIM's backcourt: They are both complete players and they deserve a lot more respect around here! They are even a more legit threat to take the championship with those two on the team plus if JC gets healthy I wouldn't want to see their asses in the playoffs

PREVIEW:  The average height of Abstract is rough is roughly 5'4 while Deep Penetration stands tall with an average height of 5'10. The 6 inch difference should be a big advantage for Deep Penetration but the quickness that Abstract has should make it difficult for the trees to overcome. It's battle of Dave vs. Goliath as the speedy Abstract take on the giant D.P.

- STATS. 2 games are under review and the stats should be updated by Saturday evening. Abstract vs. Elements and DSK vs. Game Breakers are being re-reviewed.

In case you're wondering, DSK vs. Game Breakers was a re-match that the League scheduled on Sunday morning. Dynasty was to play against Breakers and DSK so it was easy to schedule a DSK vs Breakers game to even things out. DSK was short-handed and an unregistered player played for them. DSK individual stats WILL count except for the unregistered player. It wasn't DSK's fault that they had to play at 8 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. that's why their individual stats will count.

Abstract's team stats will count due to ringers as well. Elements team stats WILL count and should be updated by tonight.

In conclusion, BECAUSE our League thrives on stats, hardware... WE NEED PLAYERS TO BE ON TIME and WE NEED PLAYERS TO RESPECT THE ROSTER RESTRICTIONS we have set for every team. It's a fair league for every team and every player... even the Commish's team and Co-Commish's teams are held in the same regard.

March 26, 2007

- STATS. A lot of players have been asking about leading the league in scoring/assists/rebounding. The winner has always been the player leading the league in TOTAL, not per Game. This was decided on last Fall because our staff agreed that we should reward players for playing more games. A player must play in at least 6 games to be considered.

- Workman High School will be unavailable for the next 3 months. All Playoff games will be at WALNUT REC CENTER. Playoffs begin on Sunday, April 1. Good luck to all qualifying teams.

- Semi-Finals, Championship, and All Star Game will be on Sunday, April 15. The 2nd All Star 3 Point Shooting Competition will be one of many attractions and we are expecting a big turn out. As you all know, the event takes place only every other season. The winner wins a trophy and half the loot the fees collected for the 3 point shooting event.

- There will be no games on Easter Sunday. No one is looking forward to Easter more than me. =)

God Bless,
Commish

Going for Two in a Row
After a grim 1-3 start, Global Gym won 4 in a row and eliminated Bank
from qualifying for the Playoffs beating them, 69-62. Bank's 5 consecutive
three-pointers weren't enough and the thrilling 4th quarter rally by Bank
had Global Gym's PG, Raul Aguilar (2nd from left) really, really nervous.
They are ranked 6th in the Platinum Division (competitive) and will meet
3rd ranked Deacons in the opening round. Team Captain, Lalo Arroyo, is
trying to make Superstar history by going for his 3rd Championship.

Big Payback
All week long, B-LO-DA-RIM's, JC Rivera, has been going back and forth
with Elements' Defending Franchise Owner of the Season, Luke Montilla.
The 'Big Talker' promised a win but narrowly lost to the surging Elements,
61-59. His teammates made him wear his underwear as a bandana
to punish him. The 8th place B-LO-DA-RIM will meet 1st place Angkor Wat
in the Opening Round of the Playoffs on April 1, 2007 at Walnut Rec Center.

The last week of the Regular Season and a lot of players padded their stats against their short-handed opponents. 3 games that were heavily considered in the P.O.W. nominations were must-win games. Flight One's Jeff Bencito scored 24 points, grabbed 4 boards, and controlled Flight One's offense against DSK. The victory secured Flight One a playoff spot.

Giyoh Shey, Bank - 34 points, 8 three's, 13 boards.
Andre Flores, Freestyle - 20 points, 15 rebounds against Swish*
EJ Latorre
, Dead End - 22 points, 11 boards*
Ryan Reyes, Dead End - 29 points, 11 boards against Swish*
Jon Lee
, Swish - 20 points, 5 steals, 3 assists in a loss.
Alex Ivezaj, #1 Stunners - 22 points, 3 steals, 85.7% (6-for-7)
Allan Bacani, Mindstate - 5 steals, 12 points, 1 block.
Mark Moton, Deacons - 31 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists.
Bernard Roberts, Deacons - 31 points, 6 assists.
Jeff Reyes, Game Breakers - 25 points, 15 boards in a loss.
Ernie Rojas, Global Gym - 20 points, 5-for-5, 4 rebounds.
Sean Dacumos, DSK - 28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 three's.

The Playoffs are coming and teams were trying to make one last statement before Playoffs began. As much as the Staff wants to share the spotlight around.... it's hard to ignore Angkor Wat's Khorn Leng going for 44 points. His 8 three-pointers were one of many highlights in the last week of the Winter season.

Andrew Knox, Relics - 26 points, 3 steals, and 6 boards.
Jack Moore, Deep Penetration - 21 points, 11 boards.
Jon Jon Bacani, Team Dime - 27 points, 3 three's, 5 rebounds.
Christian Gopez, Elements - 25 points, 2 steals, 3 three's.
