Dead End vs. Freestyle

10 a.m.  Angkor Wat vs. Phenoms
PREVIEW: Dead End is 3-1 and has made a jump to the 3rd spot. EJ Latorre has a lot to do with that and the team's leading scorer at 16 ppg has been phenomenal. Freestyle is currently the 4th ranked team and Steven Watts is leading his team in scoring (13.7 ppg), rebounds (11.3 rpg) and steals (4). This should be a good match-up between the elite teams of the Eastern Conference.

PREVIEW:  The Gold Division's leading scorer, Khorn Leng, is averaging 39 ppg and is one of the premier three-point shooters in the League (currently 1st with 21). Ryan Francisco (currently in 3rd with 15) once held the three-point record for a game and now it looks like Khorn will break the 3 point record for a season against Phenoms. Oh the genius that is the scheduling committee.

PREVIEW: Freestyle will play their second game of a double-header against Flight One, a team suddenly on the decline thanks to injuries (Brian Lumbreras). They need to rely on the leadership of Jeff Bencito and Marcus Richardson if they are to survive the Platinum Division otherwise they can just label their first season a re-building season... if there is such a thing.

PREVIEW: DSK wasn't shy about shooting an abundant amount of 3 pointers after they read the articles last week. To date, they are tops with 24 three's and Richard Sak ranks 2nd in three's with a total of 10 for the season. Flight One's Team Captain Anthony Palacol is an underrated three-point shooter and the big man will be more than happy to prove to DSK that he can shoot from long distance.

He is hoping to steal a victory from Team Dime which has lost 2 in a row. They are led by Team Captain Allan Bacani who is currently averaging 17 ppg. Team Dime doesn't want to lose 3 in a row so look for them to play above-the-competition.

There's no question who will win this game and Tommy Avalos will always be up for the challenge of pulling an upset. He'll have a difficult task against Defending Player of the Week, Mark Pagdilao. "The team doesn't have a selfish bone and we're having a difficulty choosing an All-Star from the team," advised the Commish.

WORKMAN HIGH SCHOOL

WALNUT GYM

PREVIEW: There's a lot of history between Outkast and Thrillers with Thrillers' Team Captain Justin Reyes being the founder and original Team Captain of Outkast/Flight One. A decade ago, Justin was the original outlaw who found 'ringers' Kamani Wilkins and Tab Glomah and the original Flight One team used to beat teams by 30-40 points. In the 1996 St. Martha's Basketball League Finals, it was Flight One that defeated Alvin Aguilar's Funk Phenomenon by 30 points to win their 1st ever Championship. Myth suggests that ever since then, the evil Commissioner of St. Martha's Basketball League wasn't very fond of 'ringers' since he played for Funk Phenomenon and he didn't like the feeling of losing in his own League. "I can take losing but, the fact that they spray-painted their shoes gold and had to rub it in our faces, I knew I shouldn't have let Justin added those ringers." That was then and this is now. A decade later, the Commish is well over it although Kamani (MVP of the first basketball league that Commish ran) thinks otherwise. "The fact that you are still dwelling on the past and what was, is real disturbing." The two combatants will go at it and the game will have a nostalgic feel...if Kamani Wilkins makes it out for the late trip.

6 p.m.  Global Gym vs. Foundation
PREVIEW: The Defending Champs won't be too happy if they aren't given a chance to defend their title in the Playoffs but with the way things are right now, the 1-3 team is currently out of the playoffs picture. They will play a double-header and the spotlight will be on former teammates, Global Gym's Lalo Arroyo and Foundation's Mike Tee. Former teammates were on the Summer 2006 Championship team and the bittersweet reunion should be an entertaining match-up. FYI. Did you know that both Finals MVP's are named Mike. Hmmm...

QUICK RULES

PREVIEW: MVP candidate, Derrick DeVan of Mindstate, leads the Platinum Division in scoring with 93 total points (23.3 ppg). The Center improved his free-throw shooting when his flaws were exposed by the staff and he has made a noticeable effort to improve his already polished game. He will go against Foundation's Team Captain Mike Teeravatya, and he is all too familiar with what it takes to be a Finals MVP.
