PREVIEW: The defending Champions, Global Gym, and Freestyle are both riding a one game winning streak. Global Gym's PJ Marte is leading his team in scoring at 13 ppg while Steven Watts is leading Freestyle with 12 ppg. Finals MVP, Mike Villa, is averaging 10.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg for the season. He is hoping to lead his team above .500. Freestyle's Team Captain Holden Williams witnessed his friends from Swish lose to Global Gym last week in a rout. Will he earn bragging rights by defeating the defending Champs this week?

Aldrin Medina
PREVIEW: Both teams are capable of winning the Division and they certainly have the personnel to do so. However, both teams have been inconsistent and the  Relics (1-2) should have a better record. Outkast (2-1)lost for the first time in Week 3 against Deep Penetration. Relics is leading the Division in steals with 32 whereas Outkast Connection is leading in free-throw attempts with 35. Outkast's Aldrin Medina is ahead in free-throw attempts with 14 while Relics' Andrew Knox is tied for 1st in steals with 8. Look for him to steal this game away from Outkast.

12 p.m.  Xplosion vs. #1 Stunners Xplosion vs. #1 Stunners 11 a.m.  Abstract vs. Thrillers
PREVIEW: #1 Stunners have had their eye on the #1 spot ever since day one. Xplosion has owned the top spot since Week 2 and Stunners PF, Alex Ivezaj, has been anxious at the opportunity. "It's about time we played a good team! We should beat all these teams by like 20 points or more! " They face the Division's #1 and #4 leading scorer in Adrian Camarena (20.3 ppg) and Victor Corella (16.3 ppg). Stunners' Terrence Taylor said it best last week in their game against DSK, "We're here to win, stats don't matter...pshhh..."  They need to pay attention to Team Captain Martin Camarena, and he leads the team in assists with 7. The Player of the Week has proven he is willing to adjust his game in order for his team to win.

PREVIEW: Abstract started the season strong by defeating Phenoms but now has a two-game losing streak after losing to Western Conference powers, Angkor Wat and Relics. Their slide pits them against another losing team, Thrillers, which had a very dismal showing last week. "You guys need to cut to the basket and screen for each other," advised an opposing Team Captain. On a bright side, their PF Melvin Watkins is developing into a shot blocker and he's tied for 3rd with Abstract's Ruffy Singh. They both have a total of 3 blocks. On a side note, Avengers is the only team to lose to Thrillers, a memory Team Captain Francis Pascual is trying to erase.

2 p.m.  Dynasty vs.  Swish Aztecs vs. Team Dime 1 p.m.  Phenoms vs. B-LO-DA-RIM
PREVIEW: Dynasty and Swish are both at the bottom of the Platinum Division at 0-2. It will be a block party with Swish leading the Division in blocks with 9. Jon Lee is leading all players in blocks with a total of 5 swats. Last season, both Dynasty's Ryan Smith (8) and Ryan Maine (7) finished #3 and #4 respectively in that category. It will be a rematch of last season's 1st Round and it was Dynasty that eliminated Swish from the Playoffs.

Phenoms SG, Ryan Francisco, is tied for 2nd in three-pointers with 11 while B-LO-DA-RIM's Team Captain Lawrence Pelagio is tied for 5th with a total of 7. The middle will be heavily crowded with Phenoms' Team Captain Alvin Aguilar matched up against B-LO's JC Rivera.

3 p.m.  Game Breakers vs. Bank Elements vs. BBC 5 p.m. Aztecs vs. Team Dime
PREVIEW: Game Breakers and Bank are both 1-2 and a win in Week 4 will give the victor a bigger chance at securing a Playoff spot. Game Breakers have a big chance of winning the game if it turns out to be a free-throw shooting contest. They rank 3rd in free-throw shooting 32-for-45 (71.5%) while Bank has the second lowest percentage at 46.7%. Bank's Giyoh Shey leads the team in scoring at 19 ppg while Game Breakers' Jawayne White leads the team with 15 ppg.

PREVIEW: Gold Division's top two teams face off in Week 4 and both undefeated teams are capable of scoring in clusters. Aztecs lead the Gold in assists with an average of 11 per contest. They also lead the league in rebounds with 35 rpg and are second in three-pointers with a total of 20. Team Dime is loaded with three-point shooters in Matt Stein, Jon-Jon Bacani, and Team Captain Allan Bacani. Both teams can shoot from long distance so look for a high scoring game.

4 p.m.  Deacons vs. Flight One Dead End vs Mindstate 6 p.m.  Elements vs. BBC
PREVIEW: Deacons' Center, Mark Moton, is the leading rebounder at 33 total rebounds and he is hoping his team will rebound from their first loss against Xplosion in Week 3.  He will have to do it against Flight One, another team that suffered their first loss last week. Flight One's Center, Marcus Richardson, didn't live up to expectations against Mindstate's Derrick DeVan and he's looking for redemption against this week's opponent. Flight One will have to step up their defense since two players from Deacons are in the top 5 in scoring. Jester Jovan (19 ppg) and Bernard Roberts (17.7 ppg) are ranked #2 and #3.

PREVIEW: Childhood friends take on each other as Kevin Arnold and Paul Pfeiffer play against each other, only we don't exactly know which one Elements' Luke Montilla and BBC's Andrew Persaud really is. Both Captains were in the running for Franchise Owner of the Season with Luke taking the honors last season. Both teams are in the running again and they are meeting the criteria of what it takes to be the best Franchise Owner: Victories, fan support, multimedia pages. With Elements slightly ahead of BBC in wins and highlight reels, Andrew hopes to influence the staff with a win over the Elements which is 1-2.

RECAP: The knee was a no-go for Team Co-Captain Luke Montilla and the team's leading scorer is out. BBC wins, 61-51, for their first win of the season.

7 p.m.  Dead End vs. Mindstate

8 p.m.  Angkor Wat vs. Deep Penetration
PREVIEW: The undefeated teams from both the Eastern and Western Conference will face off in Inter-Conference competition. Mindstate's Derrick DeVan is averaging 13 boards a game and has 4 total blocked shots for the season. He is matched up against Rob Miller, a strong offensive Center who has yet to be challenged this season. Both teams have superb guards and the match-ups are intriguing. EJ Latorre is Dead End's leading scorer and Mindstate's Allan Bacani WANTS to guard him.  The self-proclaims EJ stopper has been looking forward to this for 2 weeks.

Preview
    |   Game Stats    |   Recap

RECAP: Mindstate's Derrick DeVan is making a strong case for MVP scoring 22 points as Mindstate remains undefeating after beating Dead End, 50-47.

Mindstate's Allan Bacani: "They always have me guarding EJ. Matter of fact, you heard of Kobe stopper, well I'm the EJ stopper."

BBC's Andrew Persaud on his childhood rivalry against Elements Luke Montilla: "Luke... I'm the one that taught you to play basketball.... I would drive on you...and you'd always say dam drew you're too good"

Luke Montilla: "Sir Drew. You and your fictional nonsense. Billionaire Ball Club?? Here's a quote from our childhood...You better check yo' self before you wreck yo' self."

PREVIEW: Angkor Wat has the Gold Division's top two leading scorers in Khorn Leng (42.5 ppg) and Joseph Flores (34.3 ppg). The Division's most potent offense is scoring 89 points per game. Deep Penetration's Jack Moore is the defending Player of the Week for the Gold Division and he led D.P. to an improbable victory against Outkast. He is improving every week averaging 16.3 ppg, and is leading Deep Penetration in rebounding at 9.3 rpg. Could he lead D.P. to another upset?

Preview

RECAP
: Khorn Leng defeated Deep Penetration, 44-35. He also outscored his teammates, 44-30 as Angkor Wat wins, 74-35.

9 p.m.  DSK vs. Foundation Location

PREVIEW: Both teams have had a disappointing start and at 0-2, the winner will finally be rewarded with a victory. DSK's Richard Hak is doing most of the scoring for DSK while Foundation's Mike Teeravatya has provided the offensive power. DSK has been known for their slow first half and they are obviously a better second half team scoring most of their points in the deciding half. Meanwhile, Foundation has half their team scoring while the other half is...well you get the picture.

RECAP: DSK runs with 4 players and Harry Yoo ties the rebounding record with 18 boards. They were out-manned by their opponent as Foundation wins, 56-72.

ELEMENTS
A team that evolved from two players playing for Team Dynasty in the Inaugural Season. Luke Montilla and James Bernardo felt it best to lead their own squad and after a disappointing Playoff run for Dynasty, they brought their friends and started Elements. In their early 20's their mission is to play Championship ball but to get there, they practice every Saturday and record their games just to see if their game plan is executed. "Championships are a bonus for our team. From what we've seen from Outkast, Relics, and Phenoms, they have taught us that life is broken down in phases. I know most of those guys are busy with the next chapter in life (as far as family life is concerned) and they barely have enough free time. We're young and we want to spend as much time as we can with our friends before we start that next chapter. Lastly, its amazing how far technology has gone in the last 8 years. We only wished those guys were blessed with what we have now. Otherwise, we'd be watching their highlights on Superstar Basketball."

ACCOLADES:
Luke Montilla: All Star
Christian Gopez: All Star; (2) Player of the Week (Fall '06 - Week 6, and Winter '07 - Gold Division, Week 2); Three-point record holder (9).

Welcome back. NBA All Star Weekend came and went and hopefully everyone is ready to play. No more breaks along the way so the next 4 weeks is going to be tough for teams nursing injuries.

1. All the banners for the teams are done. Rosters, pictures, banners, done. Usually I give myself until Week 4 to finish them.

2. The best part of being Commissioner is watching ALL of the games, writing about them, entertaining everyone with the articles, and rewarding players with Player of the Week honors.  The last thing I ever want to do is suspend a player or issue fines. Seriously, who wants to be the bad guy? With that said, PLEASE think before you act. Also, we have to abide with the rules at the school which means,
NO SMOKING, NO DRINKING. Teams are responsible for their fans. Thanks for understanding.

3. All rescheduled games from Week 1 will be scheduled for Week 6. We're working hard at finding another gym and it will most likely be in Walnut or ASC.

4. TEAM PICTURES will be taken on Week 7, RIVALRY WEEK.

God Bless,

Commish

Dear Superstar Basketball League players and fans,

I'm not understanding this concept here so help me out if you may. On our website, it says,
NO SMOKING. BIG, BOLD and RED. At the school, it says, NO SMOKING. ALSO, BIG, BOLD and RED. Now, we're at a school, I think it's rather obvious that the State Law says, NO SMOKING on SCHOOL grounds. Is that not clear enough? Seriously, if we were at a club, a bar-b-que, or a bar, go for it. I'll be the first one to bum a cigarette off you because I could use one myself. Only Camel's Silver Turkish, please. But you know what... we're not at a club. Please be considerate of other people because while you're outside smoking there are people inside running and umm... I think they are playing basketball. That's why we're here. To play basketball. Not to host a smoke-out.

Second, there are players in this League... and I do mean, A LOT OF PLAYERS in our League who want to uhhh... hmmm... JUST PLAY BASKETBALL. Wow, Really? There are people here who paid their fees just to ummmmm.. you guess it. PLAY BASKETBALL. It gets physical, but no one should ever be overly sensitive. If there's a problem, talk to the officials about it and let the Team Captain know about it. If you're here to act all g'd up and you want to prove your manhood, Superstar Basketball isn't the place for you. You're better off HERE.

Lastly, in our 3 seasons of existence, our staff has done a lot of work to provide YOU with more than just an average basketball league. Superstar Basketball League is here to stay. We have made a positive experience in the community and we're raising the level in recreational basketball. Imagine what it was like without Superstar Basketball. Rewind back to a year ago when Superstar Basketball was non-existent. Better yet, rewind to February 26 when you logged on to www.superstarbasketball.org and you saw nothing. How did you feel?

SAY HELLO TO THE BAD GUY,
COMMISH

NIGHTCAP (Week 4) - Top 5 Games RECAP.
Around the League - Week 4.

     - B-LO-DA-RIM buzzer beater by Lawrence Pelagio.

Meet the New #1
#1 Stunners defeated Xplosion, 54-39 to remain undefeated
through Week 4. Their 3-0 record has them ranked #1.

Inter-Conference play brought out the best in a lot of players although the stat line doesn't show it. Games were ultra-competitive and here are some of the headliners.

Steven Watts, Freestyle - 17 points, 9 rebounds.
Mark Pagdilao
, #1 Stunners - 12 points, 4 dimes
Eliseo Cabildo, Swish - 24 points, 5 boards.
Ron Ninofranco, Swish - 7 assists, 4 steals.
Vic Buchanon, Dynasty - 34 points, 6 three-pointers in a loss.
Giyoh Shey, Bank - 22 points, 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Ben,
Deacons - 17 points, 8 rebounds.
Jeff Bencito,
Flight One - 22 points, 6 three-pointers.
Derrick DeVan, Mindstate - 22 points, 9 rebounds.
Harry Yoo, DSK - 27 points, 18 boards, 3 steals in a loss.

Your Player of the Week is Mark Moton. He scored 20 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and was good for 4 three-pointers in a win over Flight One.

Gold Division teams enjoyed the Inter-Conference play so much, they're doing it again this week. The competition was even for the most part and halfway through the season, several players are making their case for an All Star spot.

Andrew Knox, Relics - 30 points, 8 boards, 3 three-pointers.
EJ Nepomuceno, Outkast - 4 three-pointers, 4 steals, 14 points.
Melvin Watkins, Thrillers - 6 blocks, 11 rebounds.
Lawrence Pelagio, B-LO-DA-RIM - Game winner as time expired.
Allan Bacani, Team Dime - 20 points in a loss against Aztecs.
Alex Ivezaj, BBC - 26 points, 11 boards, 1 block.
Khorn Leng, Angkor Wat - 44 points, 3 steals. (Season - 43 ppg)

As much as we want to give the Player of the Week to Khorn, we need to spread the love and reward other players for their strong efforts. Player of the Week is Jerry "Dunkin Dirk" Schiess. The Aztecs sharp-shooter scored 21 points and hit 3 three-pointers in a win over Team Dime.
