COMMISH'SCORNER  01.14.06
Thanks for reading my weekly rant here. This week's topic... UPCOMING SEASON.

1. Due date for payments is 1/15/07. There are a lot of teams who have not submitted their rosters nor their payments.
TEAM STATUS. If you aren't scheduled next weekend, then it's quite obvious why.

2. GYM STATUS. There's good news and bad news. The good news: Co-Commish, Tommy Avalos, has been working hard in working out the logistics for the League. We did secure a home for the Spring and Summer Season and the next 2 seasons are taken care off.

The bad news: Palomares Middle School is the only vacant gym in the area. Due to the Winter break, most school districts did not respond to our request right away and the only gyms that are vacant could only accommodate us for a certain amount of time. We need to be at 1 location and we cannot split our staff into 2 for obvious reasons. We will be running games 1 game at a time and all light bulbs from the score board have been fixed. A lot of good games were played there the first time around (Ryan Francisco of Phenoms hit a record 8 three-pointers, the classic Swish vs. Outkast game was also played there). Lastly, it is important we receive payments ahead of time. Most of the gyms in our area have been paid for ahead of time and have already been occupied by other leagues. (::COUGH- NJB -COUGH::) I would kick them out myself but some of the kids are taller than me. J/K.

3. Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. A special thanks to everyone who made it to the Antidotes show. They rocked the crowd last night and if you haven't heard some of their music, then here's a sample.

VEGAS, NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND. Roll with the entourage and party like no other weekend.

MARCH 11, 2007 - RIVALRY WEEKEND (WEEK 7)
SCHEDULED GAMES:

PLATINUM
Global Gym vs. Xplosion
- Global Gym's All Star, Martin Camarena, starts his own team and will be playing against the defending Champs, Global Gym.

Freestyle vs. Swish
- Combine both teams and you basically have Presca's Players of ABA. The team has branched out to 2 different teams and Freestyle Team Captain, Holden Williams has tried to pry away Swish's Ninofranco Brothers from Team Captain Jeff Lee. This match-up between close friends should be a good one.

Foundation vs. Game Breakers
- Both teams have eliminated each other in the past 2 seasons. Foundation defeated the undefeated Game Breakers to win the Championships in Season 1. The following season, Game Breakers eliminated the defending Champs in the opening round. The rivalry continues in Season 3.

GOLD
B-LO-DA-RIM vs. BBC
Both teams have had legendary games at the park and the trash talking is all over MySpace. The rivalry moves from the asphalt to the hardwood.

Relics vs. Phenoms
Relics Team Captain, Ernest Pablo, faces his former team, Phenoms. He and his former Team Captain, Alvin Aguilar, were childhood friends. We're sure that his friend can't be too happy that he would rather start his own team.

Thrillers vs. Deep Penetration
Thrillers' Team Captain, Justin Reyes, spent a lot of time investing in the young power forward, Kris Carrillo. With a season under his belt, he felt it best to leave Thrillers and start his own team. The students are supposed to beat their teachers. Could this be the Kris' time or did he leave the team too early?

Elements vs. Outkast Connection
Outkast Connection defeated Elements in the opening round of the Playoffs last season. Could Team Captain Luke Montilla find a way to beat the 3 season veterans?

MARCH 18, 2007 - ALL STAR WEEKEND (WEEK 8)
3 PT Shootout - Featuring defending 3 PT Shootout winner, Allen Medina.

All Star Game (Gold)
All Star Game (Platinum)

MARCH
24 and 25, 2007 - PLAYOFFS, B*tches!

IMPORTANT
LAST DAY TO REGISTER IS JANUARY 8

We will accept only an even amount of teams. There are 15 teams in Platinum and 11 teams in Gold. First come, first serve. You are not fully registered until payment is received and rosters are turned in.
DEADLINE is JANUARY 15!!

FAQ's
1. How do you determine who plays in Platinum Division and Gold Division? What's the difference between both divisions?
Teams that made the Playoffs last season are automatically in Platinum Division. Teams that did not make the Playoffs and want to compete in the Platinum Division may still play in that division. The level of competition is obviously tougher in the higher division. Both winners from Platinum and Gold will receive Championship shirts. Gold Division Champs WILL NOT receive a Championship Trophy, only a Championship shirt.

2. When is my team completely registered?
Once Superstar Basketball League receives your
FULL payment, then you are completely registered.

3. What are the game times?
Sundays between 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.

4. What's up with the banner, homie? Thought it was a basketball site, not a poker site.
The NBA All Star game is holding their All Star Weekend in Vegas this year. We're rolling with our entourage to make sure we don't miss out on the big party. You can't lose, it's a win-win situation.

5. How many players from the Platinum Division can play in my Gold Division team?
ONLY 1 player to make competition fair in the Gold Division.

6. Yo yo yo, I registered my team name as 69 killer mafia dawggy-dawg. Is that cool or what?
Uhh...NO. Anything gang related, obscene, racial, sexist, or offensive won't fly in our League. We try to be as professional as can be, in return, please be professional as well.

7. Hey Commish, I registered (Insert name here) in my roster and when I did I wrote that he was 40 years old and he is 8 feet tall, 740 lbs, and has experience as a professional street-sweeper from the mean streets of Philippines. Now he's mad. Can you change it?
Hahah, NO. Again, NO. Do it right the first time. Thanks.

8. I want to be part of the writing staff. I read a couple of the articles that you guys wrote and I want to be part of a great, wonderful team. How can I join?
Why Thank You. That was all me, except for the errors, that was Luke Montilla of Team Elements. He lives in Walnut and went to school at DeVry University and he drives a red beetle (or is it a Geo METRO) with a yellow tulip in the center console. Anyway, we're always looking for volunteers who can contribute in any way. From taking pictures during the game, helping with the score, creating banners, your help will be appreciated.

9. I was reading your articles and you said some mean things about me. I'm gonna have to beat you up for your lunch money.
Please refer to Question #8.. It was probably Luke so go look for that Geo Metro. Seriously, it's all fun and games. If you are slightly offended, please e-mail Commish.

10. Yo homey, I'm the frickin All-Star and I'm gonna win the Championship, Quote me on that, quote me!
Good job. First play in the Platinum Division because that's obviously the tougher division. Second, this isn't the NBA and a lot of our players are here for other motives. Whether it's to have fun, play with old friends, or because they're entertained by the website. Winning is great but don't let it blind you from other things.
