Derrick Devan wins 1st MVP award, Andre Flores is Defensive Player of Season.

Superstar Basketball League announced early Friday morning that Mindstate's Derrick DeVan won the Winter 2007 MVP Award after leading Mindstate to an undefeated season. Deacons Center, Mark Moton, was a close second in the closest MVP race to date. "The team went 8-0 in the regular season. He has some guys who can play but no offense to Mindstate, the guys in the Deacons squad can carry their own too. Derrick is more valuable to his team and the team record proves that," observed Head Official, Reggie Ramirez. Mindstate and Deacons met in Week 5 and Derrick scored 25 points while Mark was limited to 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mindstate defeated the Hollywood team, 53-49.

Freestyle's Andre Flores was named Defensive Player of the Season. He averaged 10.6 rpg and had 8 blocks to go with 10 steals. Although his teammate, Steven Watts, led the team in rebounds with 88 boards, Andre was a defensive powerhouse that did a lot of the dirty work. "His work down on the block doesn't show in the stats sheet. We know what goes on down there, and take him away from Freestyle and their record would have been much, much lower," Reggie added. Freestyle led the Platinum Division in rebounding with a season total of 295 rebounds.

He may not look like a typical rookie but Deacons Center, Mark Moton, was rewarded with the Rookie of the Season award for his stellar play. In his first season, he also claimed the Rebounding Title after finishing with a total of 93 rebounds, barely beating Mindstate's Derrick DeVan who grabbed a total of 92 rebounds. In our Overall Stats, Mark ranked second for his all-around play and he finished the season with a remarkable line of: 17 ppg, 3.1 apg, 13.3 rpg, 13 three-pointers, and 1.6 spg. The Center blocked 6 shots and for him to be one of the League leaders in assists is an admirable task. The Defending Champions, Global Gym, was led by a rookie, PJ Marte, and the lethargic SG was also heavily considered for the award after leading Global Gym in scoring with 17.7 ppg. He was one of the League leaders in three-pointers made and he finished at the top of the leader board with a total of 27 three's.

The Fantasy Player of the Season went to Deacons swingman, Jester Jovan. "All along I thought it would have been Mark or Derrick but I was somewhat surprised to see Jester up there," said the Commish. He averaged 14.9 ppg, 2.3 apg, 2.6 spg, 75.0% free-throw shooting and the Commish believes it was his free-throw shooting that got him the better ranking. How are stats determined? "I guess you can say I'm a fantasy basketball fanatic. Based on the components in fantasy basketball, I came up with the system way before the League started and you can have a sneak peek at who the top 7 Overall players were."

The Franchise Owner of the Season went to Mindstate's Team Captain, Jay-R DeRamos. The team went undefeated the entire season and Mindstate was always on time. "Bottom line is, if your team is winning, and your players have never had an altercation all season, that means they know the rules and they have nothing but respect for the League. Also, when your team shows up early, and you watch other teams play, and you are one of the first teams to fully pay, that means YOU WANT IT. They may not have a nice MySpace profile like the Stunners do and their jerseys might be somewhat ghetto but bottom line is, they won all their games," reasoned Commissioner, Hanz Jimenez.

A new award was introduced this season and Xplosion's Adrian Camarena won the new Most Improved award. Adrian led the team in scoring with a 14.3 ppg average and the Player of the Week for Week 1 is regarded as one of the best defenders in the League. Swish's Jon Lee was a near second after leading the league in total blocked shots with 12.

The All Stars for the Platinum Division will be announced on Friday evening. Gold Division Post Season Awards will be announced on Saturday morning and All Star players will be announced on Saturday night.
