Zero Balance cleans house, Gary Beaird named MVP, Mike Mason wins Defensive Player of the Season.
Superstar Basketball League announced late Thursday evening that Zero Balance's Gary Beaird was honored with the Spring 2007 MVP Award after leading his team to an 8-0 season. Gary's main competition, Thrillers Matt Lewis, was a close second and the League Commissioner, Hanz Jimenez, was undecided with the award until Thursday afternoon.
"Gary had a phenomenal season after leading the Gold Division in scoring, steals, and three-pointers. He averaged 30.9 ppg, 3.9 spg, and 33 three-pointers."
The Commish had to evaluate his decision after hearing from different league analysts arguing that Matt meant more to his team after leading his team from a 2-6 record to a 7-1 record. The two met head-to-head and Gary scored 44 points as Zero Balance handed Thrillers their only loss this season.
His teammate, Mike Mason, was named Defensive Player of the Season. The 6'4 Center dominated the paint for Zero Balance and he broke the shot-blocking season record with a total of 30 blocks in his rookie season. Mike finished third in rebounds grabbing 18.0 rpg, 136 total rebounds for the season.
The Rookie of the Season was awarded to Thrillers Matt Lewis after leading them to the Playoffs this season. He grabbed the rebounding record (29) on April 29, 2007 against Bank. He ranked 8th in scoring with 20.8 ppg but finished 2nd in rebounds (15.6 rpg) and steals (3.6 spg).
The Franchise Owner of the Season was awarded to Zero Balance's Kanna Mom after leading his new team to an undefeated season. Kanna played last season for Angkor Wat and the two teams have dominated the Gold Division in each of their first season. Kanna already has a Gold Division Championship and now he is adding on to his accolades with his first Franchise Owner of the Season Award.
Aztecs' Ben Ede showed glimpses of potential last season and he impressed a lot of his peers this season with his newfound confidence in scoring and rebounding. The Center for Aztecs won the Platinum Division Championship with Deacons last season and he improved dramatically after receiving more playing time from General Manager Don Clark.
