END OF THE SEASON AWARDS - GOLD DIVISION
DECEMBER 15, 2007

Underdawgs Evan Namkung wins first MVP award
.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Season (Summer 2007) now claims a Regular Season MVP after leading Underdawgs to a 6-2 record. Evan Namkung led the Gold Division in scoring (32.5 ppg, 195 points) and rebounds (15.5 rpg, 93 rebounds).

"It's obvious he can play defense and he can take it to the basket any time he wants to. The difference is Evan actually makes his teammates better and if you don't see that, just look at the stats," said a league official.

The reigning MVP, 626'ers Kevin Valmonte, was a near-second in the voting and had enough respect to have Evan pick him as his MVP. "If I couldn't pick myself, the award would go to Kevin, he's a great scorer." Also garnering awards was Marcus Richardson of Outkast Connection who led Outkast to a 6-2 record.

Deep Penetration's Center, Dustin Perry, improved enormously this season because of necessity. All Star Jack Moore was out for periods of time and the defensive tasks fell on the shoulders of Dustin Perry. He placed in the Top 3 in rebounds (83 rebounds, 10.4 rpg) and blocked shots (11 blocks, 1.4 bpg) helping Deep Penetration to a 4-4 record and nearly missing the Playoffs. James McCray can be considered a near Platinum Division type player and the rookie led the division in blocked shots with 17 blocks (2.1 bpg).

The Rookie of the Season award was a close race between several players but it was obvious that James McCray's commitment to Money Shot helped lead the team to a Playoff spot. The team finished at 5-3 and James was often seen on the defensive end emphatically blocking shots. Outlawz guard Fernando Ruiz had a strong weekend (Week 8) to finish out the rookie season. He finished in the Top 3 in three-pointers with 21 three's and he averaged 21.3 ppg.

626'ers were undefeated this season and Rodney Ching was rewarded with the GM of the Season award. Finishing at a close second was Franchise's Raymond Cardenas. Last season the team faced heavy criticism after being outspoken in their forums and this season, Franchise actually won the respect of their peers specially after beating top ranked 626'ers in last season's Playoffs. "No one ever believed Franchise could defeat 626'ers last season and when they did it, they won the respect of many," said a league official. Linda Santillan and Valerie Palma of Hungry Hungry Hippos garnered several votes as well. "They provided a lot of goodies to the staff and for them to be like our 'team moms' we appreciate that," said another league official.

Chris Tanio led the division in 3-pointers this season and the former Parking Lot Pimps guard was rewarded with a Most Improved Player award. He averaged 18.9 ppg, and finished with 22 three pointers. Finishing as a runner-up was Hippos Narob Federico who is finally playing to his full potential. The defensive guard averaged 5.5 ppg 2.3 spg, and ranked 3rd in the steals department grabbing 18 steals.
